Photography

From mountain scapes to rusty old shacks, crashing waves to a lonely, stranded fishing boat, Daniel Torridon sees everything through the eyes of a designer. His camera enables him to capture the moments he discovers and incorporate them into his exclusive, limited edition photographic art.

"The purest of art forms are not composed, but discovered.
Lying dormant in the sands of time, they wait patiently to be unearthed.
It is not for us to dictate their direction, for they are born of themselves.
We are merely the priviledged discoverers.

Background

Located 50 miles west of Inverness on the road to Gairloch, the landscape of Wester Ross is dominated by the spectacular Torridon Mountains area. To the east of Torridon is the magnificent scenery of the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve and the beautiful Loch Maree, while to the west are the quiet townships of Alligin and Diabaig with some of the most spectacular outlooks in Scotland.

Tiered-wall mountains are the hallmark of the Torridon Mountains area, a beauty that is unsurpassed by any other in Scotland. Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve, formed in 1951, is home to some of the last remnants of the old Caledonian Forest which once spread across the greater part of the Highlands.

Glacial erosion has played a significant role in the creation of this complex landscape, carving out the corries and u-shaped glens. The bulk of the mountains Torridonian Sandstone capped with quartzite that has weathered to create mountains of a distinct and individual character. The village of Kinlochewe is overlooked by the quartz topped East ridge of Beinne Eighe to the south and the fortress like buttress's of Slioch to the north.
